George and John Metcalfe started trading in 1973 with a 4 wheel tipper and JCB 3C digger. Most of the work was around the Sedbergh area for local farmers etc. A contract was won to push over the local landfill sites in South Lakeland so tracked shovels were added to the fleet.

Metcalfe Bros were the first company to hire out roadsweepers in Cumbria, supplying ex Council sweepers to building sites throughout the north west.Since those early days we have built up a modern fleet of plant and vehicles. We became a Ltd company in 2006 and the firm is now run by Richard Metcalfe.
The road planing arm of the business has grown over the years, we have established ourselves as a trusted brand that delivers quality every time. Road Planing
Metcalfe Bros Ltd operate several road planers, with cutting widths from 350mm to 1500mm. We can offer these machines for hire with experienced operator or we can supply the complete package of planer, sweeper and tippers. We provide a 7 day 24 hour service and will try our best to supply machines at short notice.

Our current fleet includes:
W150 1500mm wide cut, up to 320mm deep this machine is on tracks with a front loading belt, 4 wheel steer. High production machine.
W100CFI 1000mm wide cut, up to 320mm deep, this machine is on tracks with a front loading belt. Ideal for high production in restricted sites.
W120CFI 1200mm wide cut, up to 320mm deep, this machine is on tracks with a fron loading belt, Ideal for high production in restricted sites
W1000 1000mm wide cut, up to 250mm deep, on wheels with rear loading belt.
BM500/15 500mm cut, up to 210mm deep. Fitted with rear loading belt.
W35DC 350mm or 500mm wide cut, up to 110mm deep, this machine is fitted with a small belt. Available with fine milling drum for anti skid removal etc. We have two of these machines available
Patch planers We also have patch planers to mount on JCBs and skid steer loaders these have a 400mm wide cut and up to 100mm deep.
We always have road planings for sale throughout Cumbria and have recently added a tarmac recycling plant to our fleet.
